How can we help?

FAQ

GT500 FAQs

Is this the first UK road-legal stand-on moped?

Yes, this is the first manufactured UK road-legal stand-on moped. It is designed for UK use only. It is approved by the DVSA via the Individual Vehicle Approval system. It is not type approved under the EU vehicle directive.

Is the GT500 available in other countries?

The GT500 is a vehicle registered in the UK and approved by the UK DVSA, we have plans to make this vehicle available in other countries however this will take some time. Please get in touch and or join our mailing list to stay informed.

What’s the process to get riding?

It’s just like buying a car or moped. First decide on your desired colour and spec of your vehicle, you have the option to pay a deposit to reserve your vehicle. Then make sure you have a valid CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) or motorcycle license. You can then check if you are eligible for motor insurance with our recommended provider eavi.uk. Once you receive an insurance quote, you can purchase your vehicle. When it is ready, it will be delivered by courier to you or a registered retailer. You can activate your insurance by registering your vehicle registration number with eavi.uk. Your insurance cover will commence and you’re good to go!

Are there any rider restrictions?

At the moment, the age restrictions are governed by the insurance product available. Even though you can obtain a CBT at 16 years old,  the insurance product that we recommend does have age restrictions. The insurance is only available to riders aged 21 and 70 years old. This vehicle is tested to a max load of 120kg including cargo. Riders must wear a motorcycle helmet and gloves. Riders must follow rules of the road as set out in the Highway Code.

Can I insure more than one rider so we can share the vehicle?

Details of the insurance offering with our chosen partner, eavi are being finalised.

They are a specialist provider of electric vehicle and micro mobility insurance.

We’re told to expect premiums that will be in a similar pricing bracket to an annual e-moped policy.

We have been informed by eavi that you can insure up to three people on the GT500

Where can I test-ride the GT500 Stand-on Moped?

Test rides are available by appointment only at Swifty Scooters HQ, Unit 4 Rupert Park, London Road South, Poynton Stockport, SK12 1PQ email info@swiftyscooters.com to make an appointment.

Do I need to pay tax and obtain an MOT for the GT500 Stand-On Moped?

The GT500  is an electric motor vehicle and currently exempt from UK vehicle road tax. The GT500 comes with a 3 year MOT, and will then need an annual MOT certificate.

Can the GT500 be used with more than one rider?

No the GT500 cannot be used with a second rider. No pillion passengers are permitted.

Why do I need a CBT

If you have a driving licence with AM and issued before 2001 you will still need a CBT.

This has been requested by our insurance partner. The reason is that this is a new type of vehicle.

This we understand is not immediately welcome news but actually the responsible thing to do and actually quite a good time to have a refresher.

There are many CBT schools in the UK.

If you hold a full motorcycle licence you do not need a CBT.
